Description
Bibliotheque Universelle Des Dames. Histoire. (1785 - 1797)
by Jacques Perrin, et al.
5 x 3 ΒΌ. In French. Published by rue d'Anjou, Serpente St., hotel Serpente, d'Anjou-Dauphine, Paris, 1785-1797. First Editions. 30 Volumes. Missing Volume 13. Full mottled calf bindings with double gilt ruled borders. Covers with an assortment of scratches and stains, but still appealing. At times, significant wear to spines, joints and extremities, with a few cracked hinges. All bindings remain intact. Gold-gilt page edges. Marbled pastedowns. End papers, half-titles, titles, and text block remarkably free of any ownership markings, signs of usage, staining, foxing or any other imperfections, save for a few page tears. Otherwise a very good set of a FIRST EDITION that is especially well-preserved internally.
The Universal Women's Library was produced to provide an audience of upper class women general knowledge from a variety of learned fields that represent both the humanities and the sciences. Topics in the 156-volume set include astronomy, arithmetic, medicine, logic, theater, travel, and, as offered here, history.
