9 x 6 ¾. English. Published by Lindsay & Blankiston, Philadelphia, 1872. FIRST EDITION. Illustrated. 443 pgs., excluding a detailed index, advertisements and a 44 page, “Catalogue of Medical, Dental, Pharmaceutical and Scientific Publications” in the rear. Original calf binding. Partial cracking to the interior hinges, but still sound. Spine and top edges with some chipping to the head and tail. Light to medium shelf wear to extremities; still very presentable. The front-end paper has a neatly written period name inscription in fountain pen. Clean and very bright text block. Illustrated throughout. An overall nice, collectible copy. First, much less any early editions are not commonly seen in the marketplace. Very scarce.

Carl Wedl (1815 – 1891) a native of Vienna, was an Austrian pathologist. He is largely remembered for his work in microscopic pathology and histology. He made contributions in the fields of helminthology, neurology and ophthalmology, and was one of the first physicians to apply cell theory to pathology of the eye.
