7 ¾ x 5 ¼. In English. Hardcover. Published by G.P. Putnam's Sons, New York, 1888. Pictorial red cloth stamped in gilt and black. Illustrated with engravings by Van Ingen and Snyder. Tight, clean pages with stiff boards and a secure binding. Trivial wear. Ownership marking to front pastedown; otherwise, a clean text block. In very good overall condition. First published 1875.

George Cary Eggleston (1839 – 1911) American author and brother of fellow author Edward Eggleston. After the American Civil War, George Eggleston published a serialized account of his time as a Confederate soldier in “The Atlantic Monthly.” These serialized articles were later collected and expanded upon and published under the title, "A Rebel's Recollections."
