The Mansion (1961)
Description
The Mansion (1961)
by William Faulkner
Hardcover. In English. Published by Chatto and Windus, London, 1961. FIRST UK EDITION. 399 pgs. Complete. Publisher's red cloth in NEAR FINE condition. Text block exceptionally clean throughout. No ownership markings save for a tiny bookplate on front pastedown from “Henry Sotheran, LTD, Bookseller,” one of the longest established antiquarian booksellers in the World, founded in 1761. Original, unclipped dust jacket is NEAR FINE and preserved in a mylar dust jacket cover. Trivial shelf wear to back cover. Still, almost as good as the day it left the presses. Though a hardly scarce edition, a very collectible copy nonetheless, indeed. Arguably sought-after provenance a bonus.
Written by William Faulkner, a noted American author, who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1949. “The Mansion” is the final volume in his "Snopes Trilogy,” which follows the Snopes family who live in fictional county Yoknapatawpha in Mississippi. It concludes his “The Hamlet” and “The Town.” A collection of all three first editions would surely make for a great collection.
