Description

The Conspiracy of Pontiac and the Indian War After the Conquest of Canada. (1880)

by Francis Parkman

8 x 5 ¼. In English. Published by Little, Brown, and Company, Boston, 1880. Ninth Edition. Two Volumes. Complete with maps. Finely bound and signed by “R.W. Smith” in contemporary three-quarter, green morocco. Five raised bands. Gilt titles. Trivial sunning to spines. Extremities in otherwise NEAR FINE condition. Boards with matching marbled pastedowns and end papers. Tiny owner bookplate on rear paste downs. Title pages and text blocks bright and crisp. Appears unread. A truly handsome copy, virtually new internally. Great shelf appeal indeed.

Francis Parkman (1823 – 1893) was an American historian whose works are still valued as historical sources. He was also a leading horticulturist, briefly a professor of Horticulture at Harvard University, and author of several books on the topic. Unfortunately, Parkman also wrote essays opposing legal voting for women that continued to circulate long after his death. (The image of the author we included on our website is NOT in the book.)
