Beautiful marbling to paste downs, end papers, and text block edges. Very bright and clean text blocks, nearly as fresh as the day this set left the presses. No ownership markings. Overall, a SLENDID COPY. Early editions in this format are not commonly seen in the marketplace.
Benson John Lossing (1813 – 1891) was a prolific and popular American historian, known best for his illustrated books on the American Revolution and American Civil War and features in “Harper's Magazine.” He was a charter trustee of Vassar College. This amazing, large and heavy set includes over five hundred illustrations.
