Alfred Edward Newton (1864—1940) was an American author, publisher, and avid book collector. He is best known for his book “Amenities of Book-Collecting,” first published in 1918. Over 25,000 copies were sold. Profuse illustrations of contemporary book covers, collectors, and authors. This fifth impression is the same as the fourth. The publishers once wrote, "When, owing to the continued demand for ‘The Amenities of Book-Collecting,’ we decided to print a fourth edition, we wrote Mr. Newton and asked him if he desired any corrections or changes made in the new edition. His reply was characteristic: "Certainly not. Evidently people buy my book on account of the blunders in it, and I wouldn't have 'em disappointed for worlds."
