Sir George Lockhart of Lee (1673 – 1731), also known as Lockhart of Carnwath, was a Scottish writer, spy and politician. His "Lockhart Papers" are a significant authority on the history of the Jacobites. He also authored “Memoirs of the Affairs of Scotland . . . ,” which addresses the reign of Anne, Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland, between 8 March 1702 and 1 May 1707, on which day, under the Acts of Union, two of her realms, the Kingdoms of England and Scotland, united as a single sovereign state known as Great Britain. She continued to reign as Queen of Great Britain and Ireland until her death in 1714. This work was also published by J. Baker of London in 1714, the same year as Queen Anne’s death and this Booksellers of London and Westminster’s release. J. Baker’s publication, however, is considered to be the second or third printing.
