“Waverley” is a historical novel by Sir Walter Scott. Published anonymously in 1814 as Scott's first venture into prose fiction, it is often regarded as the first historical novel in the western tradition. The book became so popular that Scott's later novels were published as being "by the author of Waverley.”
This two volume set also includes an antique armorial bookplate of Henry Robinson Rea (1863- 1919). Rea was descended from Scotch ancestry, and became a mechanical engineer after receiving degrees from the Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey. He was a resident of Sewickley (Farm Hill), Pittsburgh PA.
