The best edition of this comprehensive history of the French castle, with 31 black-and-white plates, folding genealogy, and folding map of the Loire Valley, handsomely bound. Focuses on the castles inhabitants, dungeons, torture chambers, geography and construction, and even literary associations. This work also includes sections on Joan of Arc, the Abbey of Fontevrault, and the Duke of Orleans. Sir Theodore Andrea Cook (1867 – 1928) was a British art critic and writer.
