A smart copy of the first biography surrounding the life and works of Dr. Jonathan Swift. This book, a compilation of 24 letters, was the first attempt to give an account of the life and work of Swift. First published in Dublin in 1751, remarks on Swift attracted so much attention that 7,500 copies appear to have been sold within a month. At least four editions were published the year after. This is the second, edition, “Corrected,” and FIRST LONDON EDITION. John Boyle, 5th Earl of Cork and 5th Earl of Orrery, FRS (1707 - 1762) was a writer and a friend of Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope and Samuel Johnson.
