Notes on The Parables of Our Lord (1882)
Notes on the Parables of Our Lord (1882)
by Richard Chenevix Trench, D.D.
8 ½ x 5 ¾. In English. Printed for MacMillan and Co., London, 1882, Fourteenth Edition, Revised. Complete. Very attractive contemporary polished calf elegantly tooled over wooden boards and usually sharp and unblemished corners. Heavy than an average book of its size.Spine with raised bands with simple, yet elegant gilt floral tooling within each compartment. Beautifully marbled pastedowns and end papers, the front of which has a neatly penned inscription from a previous owner. Edges red and virtually free of any defect. Minor foxing to end papers, half-title and title page, but text otherwise in bright and clean condition throughout. With only the slightest hint of wear to extremities and crisp text, it is safe to say that this is an especially well-preserved and thusly near-fine copy. (The image of the author we included on our website is NOT in the book.)
All freely acknowledge the great superiority of Richard Trench's work on the Parables to any other on the subject in the English language. First published in 1841, it was unsurpassed in depth of spiritual insight or in truly evangelical sentiment. In its day, this work was not rivaled by any in elaborateness and critical value or in its familiar and felicitous use of the labors of others, ancient and modern. The book is as delightful as it is invaluable to any student of Christianity.
