8 x 5 ¾. American Publishing House, Chicago, 1897. FIRST EDITION. Black cloth stamped in silver gilt, blind ruling, with 30 illustrations. A very rare history addressing from slavery to emancipation with biographical information on important figures of the period including George Washington Williams, Ida B. Wells, Blanche K. Bruce, Sojourner Truth and others. In very good overall condition.
